JWAAD runs an annual residential course every summer, with classes for all levels in a variety of styles, taught by highly qualified and experienced teachers.

In 2010 we will be celebrating our 20th Summer School and we will have special Birthday celebrations all week!

"An extraordinary dance experience"

We have a huge choice of classes and activities for all levels, taught by a selection of the best teachers in the country.

Subjects include a choice from the following:

•    All styles of Egyptian Dance, plus other Middle Eastern dances

•    Veil, stick, finger cymbal and sword classes

•    Rhythm and percussion

•    Improvisation, choreography and performance technique

•    Talks and background history and culture, music and costumes

•    Relaxation sessions, massage and the Alexander Technique

•    Classes with live Egyptian music

Every year we have a student performance in the theatre plus our amazing Zar (trance dance) evening.  All week we have a souk at which you can buy new costumes, jewellery, finger cymbals and music.  Everything, in fact, that a dancer could need.  We also have time to relax, socialise, and book a massage!

 

You can choose between:

•    7 days for the full experience

•    5 day course with our wonderful show - with you in it!

•    2 day course with our Harem Night Party

•    1 day courses in your favourite subjects

 

2, 5 and 7 Day Courses

We include a wide variety of styles of Arabic dance, classes with Egyptian musicians, work on technique, rhythm and choreography.  We have talks and videos, sessions on fusion and tribal, our amazing zar (trance dance) and a chance to perform at the show in the theatre and at the Harem Night.

 

1 Day Courses

These run from 9am to 6pm.  They will comprise at least 6 hours study and include lunch.  These must be booked in advance.

The Venue

The Summer School takes place at Tring Park School in Tring, Hertfordshire.  This exceptional venue is in a beautiful manor house and its connected buildings, set in large and lovely gardens.  Facilities include mirrored dance studios and a modern theatre.


 

Accommodation

Accommodation is basic but comfortable, with some rooms in the mansion and some in a modern block.  There are no ensuite bathrooms.  We have a hotel list for non-residential dancers and can provide sharers for dormitories.  Please email summerschool@jwaad.com for further information.

Prices are per person and include all meals, classes and activities, and use of all facilities.

You will need to provide a non-refundable deposit of £100 for 7 or 5 days, £50 for 2 days or the full price for 1 day.
