CLASS DETAILS
How the classes work
All classes include a warmup, technical drills, working on different styles, and a stretch session in the first hour. The second hour varies and can include learning choreography, interpretation, performance work and/or rehearsal for performances.
Students in the classes have the opportunity to perform at the Fantasia Festival and the Summer School. If you are interested in performing with the class please click here.
Tuesdays
This term we will be working with rhythm, focusing on the differences between Baladi rhythms and Folkloric ones. It means the style will be funky but focused, sharpening up our isolations to funk up our dancing. It will keep us warm too! We will also temper the tone with a little Taqasim work, as a breather and to give us an opportunity to flow gracefully as well as boogie.
Wednesdays
This term we will be developing our performance skills and working on precision with arms and upper body, to give more style to our hipwork. Oh yes, and we'll work on hipwork precision too! There will be an OPTIONAL opportunity for students to book a solo slot AFTER the class for assessment. Note: If you don't feel ready for solo work that's okay too – it just gives more time for those who want to do it.
